I highly recommend getting your birth announcements ready to go during your third trimester. Whether you decide to make your own announcements, have personalized candy announcements made or have them custom printed, you should have a plan set so that all you have to do is add in the actual birth details and perhaps a photo!
While you are impatiently waiting for your baby to born, start gathering together a list of whom you are going to send the announcements to and also get the envelopes addressed and stamped. Once you’re busy with a newborn, you’ll be glad all you have to do is say “Yes, please stuff the birth announcement envelopes” when someone asks if there is anything they can do to help.
And, if you do go with an unusually sized or shaped announcement, make sure in advance that you have chosen an envelope or packaging that is post-office approved that it will be adequate for mailing your announcement safely and that you have anticipated the proper amount of postage. I’ve received some very creative announcements that got absolutely mangled by the post office and came with postage due which kinda took the fun out of the creative idea for the birth announcement.
