Babylist vs MyRegistry: Features

Next, we’ll compare Babylist vs MyRegistry’s features head-to-head to see which one comes out on top!

Visual Appeal

babylist vs myregistry

When it comes to visual appeal, Babylist is the champion. The site is aesthetically pleasing, with a crisp white background and large, easy-to-read buttons. There isn’t too much text on each page, so navigating is a piece of cake.

Once you create your registry, Babylist lays out your chosen items in an ordered list, showing the item’s name, photo, and pricing options in an easily understandable format. The large edit and trash icons make revising or deleting gifts on your list effortless.

MyRegistry’s layout is more complex, with a lot of text on each page, so the site is more challenging to navigate. While informative, the dashboard can also feel a bit overwhelming, showing registry information, popular gift ideas, inspiration boards, and trending topics all on one screen.

Personalization Options

Next, let’s compare Babylist vs. MyRegistry’s personalization options!

Both platforms allow you to do the following:

  1. Categorize your items into different lists. Both sites allow you to put your registry items into categories – like feeding, bath time, and diapering – to help you stay organized.
  2. Add custom categories. Whether you want a category for pregnancy snacks, jungle-themed toys, or anything else, Babylist and MyRegistry permit you to create categories that fit your needs.
  3. Create custom registry links. With Babylist and MyRegistry, you’ll never be forced to use a complex, pre-made link that takes 25 years to type correctly!
  4. Write personalized notes for each item. You can write important info about each gift – like the size, color, or style you want – to inform your guests of your preferences.

As you can see, Babylist and MyRegistry are both pretty great personalization-wise. But, there are some differences.

One unique feature on MyRegistry is the virtual guestbook, which allows visitors to record videos and leave sweet messages to congratulate you on your newest family member.

While this feature is nice, we think Babylist’s unique personalization tool blows it out of the water!

On Babylist, you can add products to your registry directly from the website where the products are sold – which is a very useful function. The products they suggest are personalized based on other items you’ve added to your registry and other parents’ top preferences.

Many of Babylist’s suggested products aren’t sold on larger retail sites like Amazon, so you can discover cool brands you’ve never heard of before.

Because of this feature, we give Babylist the win for personalization.

Ease of Use

As a future parent, you’ve got enough on your plate. The last thing you need is a baby registry site that’s difficult to use! Luckily, Babylist and MyRegistry are both incredibly straightforward.

Each site has a browser extension that allows you to add items from any online store to your registry. So, if you are browsing the internet and find something you want, you’ll click the “add to my list” button, and it’ll automatically go on your registry. Pretty cool, huh?

Babylist and MyRegistry also have handy mobile apps to manage your registry from your phone.

While both apps are well-made, we prefer Babylist’s because it allows you to add items directly in the app without having to go to other websites like on MyRegistry.

However, MyRegistry’s app has a cool feature not seen on Babylist: it allows you to scan item barcodes! So, if you’re shopping and see something you like, you open the MyRegistry app, scan the item, and boom – it’s on your registry.

Discounts

Having a baby doesn’t have to break the bank with Babylist’s fantastic completion discount, which gives you 15% off registry items sold by Babylist.com.

This discount is only eligible within 60 days prior to your baby’s expected arrival date, so make sure to use it within this time frame.

Babylist also sends you a free Hello Baby Box in which they include gifts from their favorite products and brands. You must spend $10 on the site and have a valid U.S. shipping address to be eligible.

Although MyRegistry doesn’t offer any completion discounts directly through their site, there are other perks we’ll discuss below.

Ability to Sync With Other Registries

When comparing Babylist vs MyRegistry’s ability to sync with other registries, MyRegistry is the clear winner.

MyRegistry allows you to import gifts from other retailers into your MyRegistry.com account, so they are organized in one place. You also get to keep the benefits of registering with those other retailers (more about this in the next section).

Babylist doesn’t let you do this. Instead, you can import the items and then delete the other registries. Or, you can post links to your other registries on your Babylist account. However, gifts from your other registries won’t appear on Babylist, so it’s easier to forget something or add duplicates.

Individual Store Benefits

One of the main advantages of MyRegistry is that it allows you to keep individual store benefits. If, for example, a retailer has an excellent return policy or completion discount, you can keep the benefits even after you link them to MyRegistry.

On Babylist, however, you can only register on their site which prevents you from receiving discounts or benefits from other retailers.

Option to give a Cash Gift

Cash gifting is a cool feature that allows your guests to send you money for specific items or activities. For example, your guests can send money for your stroller, nursery, or a future college fund! Babylist and MyRegistry both have this feature.

Additionally, both sites permit you to create custom cash funds. So if you want something specific – like a baby jungle gym set or to attend a mommy-and-me class – you can create cash funds for these items.

In the cash gifting option category, we think Babylist and MyRegistry deserve a tie.

Our Takeaway

So when comparing Babylist vs. MyRegistry, who comes out on top?

In our opinion, Babylist is the winner when you compare each feature head to head (even if they don’t clearly win in each category, they’re still the best overall).

Babylist is more visually appealing and easier to navigate. Its layout is effortless to use, allowing for a stress-free experience.

You can also add items directly from Babylist’s app or website, so you don’t have to register with several different retailers.

Babylist also gives you personalized product suggestions, making it easy to find the perfect products for your family.

The main problem with Babylist is that it doesn’t allow you to register with other retailers, so you can’t maintain their individual store benefits.

An easy way to get around this is to post links to your other registries on your Babylist account, so you can still get the benefits of registering with other retailers while only sharing one registry link with your guests.

Despite this tiny flaw, we think Babylist’s simplicity, personalization features, and ease of use make it the top choice!
