Interesting Baby Shower Stats Revealed by Guests in Survey
Are you curious about the types of baby showers people are attending, or the importance of shower etiquette? We collected baby shower stats from women in the U.S. who have attended or hosted a baby shower in the last 6 months. We were surprised by some of the answers, and we think you will be too. Keep reading to see what people had to say.
What Kind of Baby Showers Are People Attending?
Survey Question: What Kind of Shower Did you Attend or Host?
Out of the women we surveyed, 69% attended an in-person-only shower in the past 6 months. About 25-30% attended a hybrid shower (a combination of an in-person and virtual shower) or a virtual shower only. A hybrid baby shower continues to be a great way to host a shower that includes everyone. If your favorite aunt or close college friend isn’t able to travel to attend your shower, a hybrid event makes it possible for them to celebrate with you virtually. A combined baby shower is a trend that hosts can use to their advantage.
1. Virtual Baby Showers Remain Relevant (Even Post-Pandemic)
Survey Question: What Kind of Baby Shower Do You Think Is Best for the Expecting Mom?
You can see from the survey responses below, guests who have attended a combined baby shower say that this is the best option for the expecting mom. We can concur – virtual baby showers are here to stay!
Of those who attended an in-person-only baby shower, 24% thought a combined shower was the better choice for the mom-to-be.
2. Hybrid Showers Are the Future!
Survey Question: What Kind of Baby Shower Do You Think Is Best for the Expecting Mom?
We took the same question, but sorted by age and saw a generational difference in the results. Of the women surveyed, those under 37 were more likely to think a combined shower would serve an expecting mother best. Since younger women tend to be more familiar with app-based solutions for weddings and other special events, this makes a lot of sense.
This might also reveal an understanding that the bigger the baby shower, the more potential support a mom-to-be will receive through her registry.
3. Games and Prizes are Still Important, Even at a Virtual Baby Shower
Survey Question: What were your favorite parts of the shower?
According to our baby shower stats, games continue to be an important part of the experience. While it does work a bit differently during combined showers (see our guide), they remain a guest favorite.
This might counter what you would expect, but two different surveys had similar results. Whether it was an in-person, virtual, or combined event, people ranked games in the top 50 percent.
WebBabyShower recommends using games as an icebreaker, and as a way to keep the shower moving along. Awarding prizes keeps things interesting as well, especially for your more competitive guests.

4. The ‘Gift Opening’ Ritual Isn’t Everyone’s Cup of Tea
Survey Question: What were your favorite parts of the shower?
When we look at the baby shower stats by guests vs hosts, we see something that supports our advice on how to handle opening gifts at a shower, especially a virtual event.
Gift opening is usually a staple of any baby shower, but only 7% of guests marked it as their #1 favorite part of the event. Meanwhile, shower hosts marked it about twice as often (16%).
While the host wants to unwrap each gift and thank her guests in person, the guests themselves don’t generally consider this portion the highlight of the shower.
To update this tradition, we recommend a nursery tour, if possible, with unwrapped gifts already on display. This works well for both virtual and in-person events.
5. Everybody Admires Good Etiquette (Apparently!)
Survey Question: How Important Is Baby Shower Etiquette To You?
If you were surprised by this one, we were too. Of the women we surveyed, a majority marked baby shower etiquette as very important or absolutely essential.
This is likely because baby shower guests appreciate the planning and organization that goes into hosting a shower, especially if it is a combined shower with in-person and virtual guests.
While the format of an in-person shower might differ from a combined shower, etiquette remains important to both hosts and guests. We found that 63% of those who attended an in-person shower marked etiquette as very important or absolutely essential. While 82% of people who attended a combined shower marked it the same.Read – Baby Shower Etiquette for Guests and Hosts
