Baby Registry Etiquette Tips
Keep reading to discover helpful registry etiquette tips that’ll make creating and sending your baby registry a breeze.
Not Registering
Are you one of those people who has a hard time asking for what you want? If so, you may have considered not registering for your baby shower.
But, we’re here to tell you that it’s perfectly acceptable to ask for specific gifts. In fact, many of your loved ones will be thankful for your registry since it takes the guesswork out of gift giving.
A baby registry gives your friends and family a list of exactly what you need without them having to worry about getting you something you don’t like or a duplicate.
Including Expensive Items Only
We don’t recommend only including big ticket items on your baby shower registry, as this can put your guests in an awkward position if they can’t afford what you’re asking for. It also sends the signal that smaller gifts aren’t welcome.
Instead, try to include various gifts with different price ranges. If you need some inspiration, here’s a list of some affordable baby shower gifts you can add.
Not Adding Big Ticket Items
While you should add some smaller gifts on your registry, that doesn’t mean you can’t add big ones, too. So, go on, add that awesome stroller or crib you’ve had your eye on!
Some of your guests who are close to each other may decide to go in on the gift together. Additionally, many online registries have a “group gifting” option that allows your guests to contribute money towards big ticket items. So, there are plenty of ways you can get your big gifts without inconveniencing your guests.
Overcomplicating Things
Making a baby registry is a lot of fun. There are so many adorable gadgets and gizmos available for babies. So, it’s perfectly natural for you to create an extensive wish list.
Before you send your list out, however, we recommend narrowing your list down to the things you really want. Having too many gifts can be overwhelming and may put pressure on your guests to try to get everything on your registry.
The number of gifts you should include depends on the size of your guest list. The more guests you have, the more gifts you should include.
Get Expert Advice
If you’re a first-time parent, knowing what you should include on your baby registry can be a bit overwhelming. It can be a real challenge to know which products you’ll actually need and which are going to collect dust in your nursery.
Therefore, it’s a good idea to ask your mom friends for advice. Ask them what products they loved and which ones they could’ve done without.
If the clock is ticking and you need to make your registry like yesterday, ask your co-host to help you research products. This will make the process go quicker while also ensuring you are getting high-quality products you’ll actually use.
Registering at the Last Minute
Procrastination is not your friend when it comes to making a baby registry. If you wait till the last minute, you may end up getting things you don’t need (as mentioned above). Or, you might not get many gifts at all as your loved ones may not have time to order the presents before the big day.
We recommend sending your registry information along with your baby shower invitation. This will give your guests plenty of time to pick out the perfect gift before your celebration.
Not Choosing Different Stores
Most parents have a hard time finding everything they need at just one store. Therefore, we recommend registering with various stores to ensure you get everything your little one needs.
Register with online stores whenever possible, as this allows your guests to purchase gifts from the comfort of their home. If you do register in-person, make sure to choose chains that your guests will have easy access to regardless of where they reside.
